projects

Hi friends! Mid-September already....wow! Where does the time go? We have many projects started here in the cul-de-sac and a certain someone has been asking me to please show a really fun project that was recently completed.

This is my teenager's room, she's a lucky girl! She's got the biggest bedroom, with lots of neat angles and fun surprises. I have always envisioned a window seat in the dormer window, so now we can check that off the to-do list. We are on the hunt for really cool pillows to add to the space.

Just behind this bookshelf was unused space that we have always talked about utilizing. Well, we did it! Through the wall we went. Creating this little nook just took some insulation and drywall. Proud to say my daughter had complete artistic license in this room. She picked out the paint colors. Primed and painted the walls herself! Cute little IKEA chandelier and a remnant rug finished it off.  However.....the girl is at a stand still on the stencil which is to be done in the Raspberry Rush color. I told her it looked a bit complex but she insisted! (of course, I already threw away the receipt and custom paint color is not returnable.....grrrr)
She still needs to paint trim work but finding the time now between  school and soccer is nearly impossible! She would also like to furnish it with a bean bag chair and lots of pillows. But my budget for this room is ZERO! She will need to find a really thrifty way to accomplish the rest! Currently she is using this as her sleeping chamber. She has a feather bed and lots of blankets on the floor and says it is quite comfortable. She'd even like me to sell her bed......NO, not happening!

The dog enjoys this room too!
Her little brother has taken his friends inside to play (she wasn't home of course!!!)

 Her color pick.

She has also been quite busy taping a million pictures all around her room! Pick your battles people, that's my advice! This wasn't worth arguing about. It's her room; as long as it is clean I'm happy!

Next project.......one for the husband! And this is all his idea and design. I've been biting my tongue a lot! Again, pick your battles! Just as long as I can have the first drink at the future bar!

You're all invited to pull up a stool when it is complete!

  2. Awesome! I love the window seat, and the clever hideaway in her room. She;s a lucky girl. The pics along the top look great, but I too would have been biting my tongue, thinking of all the tape she was using and who was going to take it all down after she moves out and worrying about the paint that will be lifted off by tape. You are a good mom to pick your battles, and it really does look cool. Can't wait to see the bar and hope to enjoy a drink at it someday! (I will bring a hostess gift, if that gets me an invite.)

  4. That is the coolest thing ever! The teenage girl in me wants a secret room like that to hang out in. And the 38 yr. old me wants a room like that to hide out from the kids. Great job!
